The Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union Tribune are looking for a Senior Analyst to join the team in either our LA or SD offices. Analysts are part of our data organization where you’ll have the chance to work with a modern data team using the latests tools including data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and consumer researchers to help instill a data-first culture into our products, strategic initiatives, and business operations.

The Data Platforms team at the Los Angeles Times is responsible for data collection and instrumentation across all our digital products as well as being experts on various data systems and how they work including editorial, web analytics, subscriptions, and advertising. This team is the primary owner of data hygiene throughout our ecosystem and also works on designing and maintaining data models from our more raw data to help power the business.


Partner closely with Data Engineering to build re-usable self-service data systems

Work with other Analytics groups and data users in editorial and marketing teams to ensure they are able to access and use data in their jobs

Create tools for monitoring the health of our data ecosystem including the data lake, data warehouse, and Business Intelligence (BI) server

Ensure data available in our data services is clean and ready to use

Build modeled data and expose it in our data systems to enable more effective use of data around the company


Desired Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years experience working in data analytics
    Proficient in SQL
  • Proficient in Tableau, Looker or similar BI tool
  • Experience with at least one modern data warehouse platform (Redshift, Snowflake, Hive, Athena, etc.)
  • Experience in at least one of the following types of data analyses: digital advertising, e-commerce / subscriptions, web analytics
  • Experience designing data models from raw log dataNice to Haves

Experience with Python
Experience with optimizing query and table performance in data warehouse environments
