The world-renowned R&D teams at Xerox PARC have been developing new technologies designed to address many of the most complex and hard-to-solve challenges in the Cleantech sector. The Mechanical Design Engineer for Cleantech is a newly created role that will work closely with the VP and Head of the Cleantech Business Unit and the R&D team at PARC to bridge novel technologies into productization in Xerox’s new Cleantech Business.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation for Cleantech solutions and be a part of creating and launching cutting edge technology.
Execute all aspects of Product Design for a novel HVAC program
Work within a phase-based design development process
Work within a prescribed document and revision control system
Work with operations for Enterprise Resource Management inputs from product design (BOM)
Manage suppliers to quote, build, and evaluate prototype and production parts
Prototyping, basic fabrication, machining, debugging, and parts chasing
Participate with quality and testing activities
Help initiate and support later efforts for later phased product development, e.g. manufacturing, sustaining engineering
BS in Mechanical Engineering or directly adjacent field of study. MSE Product Design preferred.
>10 years of experience in product design and development, mechanical design and design for manufacturing
>10 years product design team management experience
Mastery of parametric CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Experience with innovation and invention
Demonstrated history of direct design contributions for products brought to market
Extensive knowledge of a wide array of manufacturing processes, e.g. sheet forming (plastic and metal), roll forming, die cutting, injection molding, machining, welding
Structured problem-solving skills leveraging inputs such as functional documentation (P&ID diagrams, mechanical drawings)
Able to work cross discipline whether with scientists or Industrial Designers for example.
Self-starting and able to brainstorm whether in a group or on their own to create new concepts where none seemed to exist.
