YOUR ROLE AT HSBI

You will teach technical computer science, including its fundamentals, advanced topics, and related fields (particularly artificial intelligence), in the practice-integrated bachelor’s and master’s programs of the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematics at the Gütersloh Campus.

Together with your colleagues, you will contribute to the further development of the degree programs and support the establishment of international study programs.

You will help shape and strengthen the profile of the Gütersloh Campus through research and development activities in your field.

You will pursue your own research activities within the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematics.

You will actively acquire third-party funding for your research projects.

You will contribute actively to academic self-governance and participate in university committees.

You are committed to promoting the transfer between theory and practice in the East Westphalia-Lippe region.

You will establish and maintain international collaborations with researchers, academic partners, and industry.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

You hold an excellent university degree and a doctorate in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field.

You have at least five years of professional experience, including at least three years outside of academia, and you possess substantial practical experience in the development of distributed, networked, and embedded systems.*

You have expertise in data science, IT security, and/or industrial Ethernet and fieldbus systems.

You have engaged in your own research and published in relevant academic outlets.

You already have experience in academic teaching.

You enjoy sharing your knowledge, have the ability to effectively convey learning content to students, and are open to student feedback.

You are capable of teaching in German and English.

You are familiar with digital teaching formats.

* In place of the professional experience required under § 36(1) no. 5 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW), additional academic achievements may be considered (e.g., as part of a junior professorship, habilitation, academic positions at universities or non-university research institutions, or in academic roles in industry, government, or other sectors in Germany or abroad).

WE WOULD ALSO BE PLEASED IF YOU HAVE:

Ideally, hands-on experience in edge computing solutions for smart industry, smart home, or smart city applications.

Experience in acquiring third-party research funding.

Willingness to act as an ambassador for the Gütersloh Campus by participating in industry events and maintaining close contact with local businesses.

An interest in supporting international students, including in English.

A willingness to participate in onboarding and training programs for newly appointed professors.

An interdisciplinary mindset and readiness to collaborate with colleagues across different subject areas.

Ideally, a willingness to reside in or near Gütersloh.

A desire to promote diversity and gender competence in teaching and research.
