University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Siebel School of Computing and Data Science – Professor (Open Rank)
The Grainger College of Engineering
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
The Siebel School of Computing and Data Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for full-time tenure-track faculty positions at all levels (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor). Anchored by a transformative $50M gift from alumnus Tom Siebel, in July 2024 the University of Illinois established the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science, encompassing all the degree programs, faculty, staff, operations, and facilities of the former Department of Computer Science, including the top #5 ranked computer science undergraduate and graduate programs, and the cross-campus partnerships involved in the nation-leading CS+X and X+DS blended degree programs.
The Siebel School is in a growth phase and we have hired more than 35 faculty, including nearly 25 tenure-track faculty, in the past three years. The School is participating in campus-wide searches for faculty in three areas: Neuro-Informatics: Big Data Computational Systems Neuroscience; AI for Community Health; and IMMERSE: Center for Immersive Computing. Candidates should state in their cover letter which strategic cluster hiring initiative they are interested in and list which other participating departments they have applied to, if any. In addition to these focus areas, we welcome applications from exceptional candidates in all areas and particularly encourage applications from senior and mid-career candidates.
Applicants are required to have (or expected to receive) a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Computer Science or a related field. Additional qualifications include the ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and the potential to initiate and carry out independent research.
We seek applicants that will contribute to the diverse, vibrant, and inclusive atmosphere in the School as we strive to make computing’s remarkable opportunities available to everyone through the continued expansion of our research and teaching activity in Urbana-Champaign, in Chicago, and online.
